The Salt Flats during dry season in Bolivia is one of the best places to go in October

1. Salt Flats, Bolivia

Most travellers make their way to Bolivia for the stunning Salt Flats and the good news is, they are one of the best places to go in October! Bolivia is experiencing mild weather with usually little rain this time of year. You can expect clear blue skies that emphasise the beautiful white Salt Flats as far as the eye can see.

Spring in the region Costa Verde is the perfect time to visit for anyone who wants to avoid the heat of the South American summer but still wants to catch lots of sunshine and a tan. It’s the best time to visit if you’re after “city-ploring” and adventurous excursions.

Autumn in Japan

3. Japan

While Japan’s world-famous cherry blossoms seem like an enticing time to visit the country, think again! Japan might not spring to mind when you’re brainstorming the best places to visit in October, but it certainly deserves a space on your research list.

Green trees transform into a playful spectacle of yellow, orange and red. Furthermore, the cooler autumn air will make you truly appreciate a visit to the traditional ‘onsens’ (hot water springs) and deliciously warming meals like Ramen.

View of the Himalayas in Nepal, one of the best places to visit in October

4. Annapurna Foothills, Nepal

Many travellers prefer the Annapurna Foothills between June and September. Although there are fewer crowds and cheaper flights available, it’s also one of the wettest times to go.  The good news is, those shying away from rainy weather can hike the Annapurna Foothills in October with confidence that they’re likely to catch the best weather all year. October brings pleasant temperatures before the cold winter arrives and you can expect predominantly blue skies and clear views. Therefore Nepal is one of the best places to go in October.

5. Sahara Desert, Morocco

Many travellers are under the impression that the best time to visit Morocco is during summer. The high flight prices can be misleading, but anyone who’s made the trip to Morocco from June through to September will know that the midday sun is definitely not your friend.

In October evenings start to cool down, but if you’re after a sunny October getaway, midday temperatures still climb as high as 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit).

With generally cheaper prices and balanced temperatures that won’t spoil your mood to explore, Morocco makes a great getaway in October.

Enjoy a scenic drive to the Sahara Desert, try some authentic Moroccan food and spend a night stargazing on one of our most popular Morocco itineraries – Best of Morocco.

Night sky in Wadi Rum, one of the best places to go in October

6. Wadi Rum, Jordan

Similar to Morocco, October brings the perfect balance of pleasant day and night time temperatures to the country. Especially in Wadi Rum, the southern part of the country, you can enjoy stargazing in clear conditions. If wearing a jumper at night doesn’t bother you then Jordan is one of the best places to visit in October for you.

Got stargazing on your mind? Opt for our 8-day Journey to Jordan tour and be mesmerised by the twinkling night sky.

Patagonia is one of the best places to go in October

7. Patagonia, Chile & Argentina

October marks the beginning of spring in the southern hemisphere. That means the cold and stormy winter months are coming to an end in Patagonia.

The travel season in Patagonia runs from October all the way through to March, with the high season (and the busiest months) falling from the end of November to early February. If you’d like to experience Patagonia in its true tranquil and mesmerising beauty then October is the best time to visit.

The Galapagos Islands is one of the best places to go in October

8. The Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Officially October is part of the low-season in the Galapagos. But as you may have noticed, we prefer a lot of destinations in shoulder and off-peak season. The reason is that you can expect a more authentic experience with fewer crowds and lower prices. (There are some exceptions, e.g. we don’t run tours in Patagonia’s off-peak season due to bad weather.)

In the Galapagos in October you can expect warm temperatures of around 22 degrees Celsius (77 in Fahrenheit) with dry and mist-free days. The Humboldt current from the Antarctic also delivers essential nutrients to the island group which is partly responsible for a rich wildlife experience.

Due to the limited amount of visitors allowed to the Galapagos islands and the costs that are involved, a trip to this remote part of the world is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The Galapagos Islands are an all year round destination and while we think October is one of the best times to go, it really depends on your preferences, animals you’d like to see and excursions you’d like to go on.

Sossusvlei in Namibia

9. Namibia

Namibia is one of the best places to visit in October. Temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius (86 in Fahrenheit), in combination with little rain makes it the perfect time to enjoy a game drive without breaking a sweat. Travel towards the end of the month to dodge the crowds and enjoy an affordable safari in Etosha National Park, before heading to the Namib Desert for unforgettable views.

Charles Bridge on a foggy autumn day, one of the best places to visit in October

10. Prague, Czech Republic

There is something about experiencing Eastern Europe in the fall. The heat of the summer months is wearing off and you’re likely to wake up to foggy and mystic mornings in Prague. This only adds to the flair of the architecture that can be found here. In addition, the milder temperatures of usually 10-15 degrees Celsius (50-59 in Fahrenheit) are perfect for exploring.

Even traditional food in the region is made for the milder weather in October. A wide array of delicious comfort food is awaiting you. Plus, it’s now officially shoulder season in Europe which means fewer crowds and cheaper flights!

Does this sound like a bit of you? Go on an Eastern Europe adventure and explore the Czech Republic in all its colourful beauty on a 17-day tour.
