I have just returned from your FABULOUS tour of Sri Lanka. As\u00a0I do on many of my holidays, I wrote a poem about our experiences and read it to the group on the last night.<\/p>\n
We came to Sri Lanka to see the land,
\nExperience the culture, learn it all first hand.<\/p>\n
Prisanth was our guide; he looked after us well,
\nHe took us to places, had lots to tell.<\/p>\n
Ranjit, our driver was careful and sure,
\nPubudu was there to open the door.<\/p>\n
Polite and helpful were these two,
\nWas it Pompidou or Scooby Doo???<\/p>\n
We started in Negombo and met the team,
\nIt all seemed like a bit of a dream.<\/p>\n
The fish market was buzzing, sellers everywhere,
\nThen to a Hindu temple, in Sri Lanka more rare.<\/p>\n
We searched for animals in the national park,
\nWe drove around till it got quite dark.<\/p>\n
Anduradhpura had the ancient tree,
\nA solid white stupa, a moonstone to see.<\/p>\n
Mihintale is a most sacred site
\n1850 steps to the top was quite a height.<\/p>\n
Very hot on the feet, we scampered up fast,
\nWe really didn\u2019t want to be the last.<\/p>\n
The second tallest Buddha made us stare in awe,
\nAt these special sites we had to be careful what we wore.<\/p>\n
The Sigrya Fortress was very high,
\nWe climbed and climbed, some of us thought we would die!<\/p>\n
An offer of marriage was a surprise,
\nWere they tears we saw in Gill\u2019s eyes??<\/p>\n
The view from the top was a sight to see,
\nIt really was an amazing place to be.<\/p>\n
The Polonnaruwa ruins we cycled around,
\nWithout any shoes it was hot on the ground.<\/p>\n
Dambulla Rock temple had 5 caves to see, We saw lots of plants to help people heal, On the side of the road we had a picnic for kings, Hotel Thilanka in Kandy was nice, They stole Gills\u2019 swimwear, we all heard her screech, We walked in the gardens, the evening a show, Hoppers for tea, the next morning the train, White water rafting was lots of fun, Went to a tea factory and bought some tea, The amazing building was very old, Up early next morning heading for World\u2019s End, The animals were great, the walk lots of fun, The dining room for tea, it was all very flash, Off to the waterfall and elephants too, The campsite was great, the food sublime, The beach was a lovely restful spot, We watched the wedding in the dining room, A day in Galle to look and shop, We had our last dinner at the old fort, The trip on the river had lots to see, Dave\u2019s jokes kept coming and made us smile, We\u2019ve memories and gifts and new friends made, Yusra and David, Sarah and Emma, Chris and Gill, Gail and Sue, Our happy little band has come a long way, We may meet again at a time yet to come,
\nThe painting and Buddhas were from 1st<\/sup> Century BC.<\/p>\n
\nA massage was nice, then we had a meal.<\/p>\n
\nOn all of our trays were many nice things.<\/p>\n
\nThe monkeys were thieves didn\u2019t have to ask twice!<\/p>\n
\nThe monkey culprit was just out of reach.<\/p>\n
\nThey walked across fire, it was all aglow!<\/p>\n
\nA ride into the mountains, heading for rain.<\/p>\n
\nOnly two went, the rest swam in the sun.<\/p>\n
\nThen on to the Hill Club, so much to see!!<\/p>\n
\nHot water bottles and heaters ensured we didn\u2019t get cold.<\/p>\n
\nWalked 9 kilometres, through forests we did wend.<\/p>\n
\nUnfortunately there was mist, but at least we had sun.<\/p>\n
\nPrisanth did a deal so we paid less cash.<\/p>\n
\nWith 30 young babies there\u2019s lots to do.<\/p>\n
\nWe\u2019ll be on their website in very short time.<\/p>\n
\nThe weather warm, to very hot.<\/p>\n
\nThe guests, the bride, and of course the groom.<\/p>\n
\nOur bags are now beginning to pop.<\/p>\n
\nIn the town of Galle, near the port.<\/p>\n
\nThe turtles would soon be allowed to go free.<\/p>\n
\nThey kept us amused for many a mile.<\/p>\n
\nThis trip was a bargain, not much was paid.<\/p>\n
\nCarol and Jo, Dave and Sarah,<\/p>\n
\nRanjit , Prisanth and Scooby Doo.<\/p>\n
\nBut now it\u2019s time to call it a day.<\/p>\n
\nBut for now it\u2019s farewell, we\u2019ve had tons of fun!!<\/p>\n
